Don’t take my word for it…
Choosing a coach/teacher is an important decision. Hear from my students!
Acting
Kat Kenny is a special kind of human. I had the beautiful privilege of being a student of Kat’s for almost three years, and she’s played a HUGE role in my creative journey. Started off with group improv classes in person and online, then acting class privates- if you’re looking for a fun, knowledgeable coach who can match your weird and that knows how to bring out the best in your improv or acting skills- I’d recommend Kat, in a heartbeat every time.

I first started taking classes with Kat eight years ago. Her magnetism lies in her teaching style which combines patience, humor, and intimate understanding of theatre. I have taken acting, improv, summer camp classes with her, and audition prep with her. Under her guidance I have gotten into three highly selective arts focused schools (middle, high school, and college). My favorite theater class I’ve done with her is YAG - a Youth Actor’s group that allowed local youth to learn theatre, leadership, and technical theatre skills. I highly recommend that if you get the opportunity to work with her you do. Kat is an amazing human and I’m grateful that she has been my theatre teacher!
– Aril S. (Teen Acting Student)
Kat is a very kind and enthusiastic teacher! She is always willing to help a student for any reason, and gives great feedback when you need it! She encourages students to be their best selves and to achieve their goals in the class setting and out. She is never judgmental and is always willing to listen. Kat is a wonderful teacher, and very knowledgeable in many different aspects of acting!
– Maggie (Teen Acting Student)
Ms. Kat is an incredible teacher! I was a member of the Youth Actor’s Guild and every class she would teach us what we wanted to learn and make it fun. She always considers students first and plans the classes accordingly. Not to mention, she is one of the kindest people I’ve ever met. She includes everyone in everything and never lets any student feel like they don’t belong.
– Leah T. (Teen Acting Student)
Kat is an amazing teacher. I have taken classes with Kat for several years. I have learned so much from her and she helped me gain self confidence. Kat is kind and supportive. I greatly admire her.

Audition Prep
My son went to Kat for theatre coaching and I immediately noticed how comfortable and happy he was post sessions. He told me how fun she was and how easy she was to understand and learn from. She gave him great direction and advice that ultimately lead to him achieving his intended goal. He looked forward to seeing her every time, we would highly recommend Kat to anyone and everyone! She’s the best, 10/10!!
– Elisha L. (Bak Audition Prep)
I have been trained and also have participated in group improv sessions with Kat. It has been an enriching journey for me, throughout the process I felt heard, seen and understood, motivated, guided and very well supported. The process Kat uses is very well informed in terms of techniques, forms of theatre, connecting me with experts. She’s a fully committed mentor and guide. She has helped me to prepare for my ATCL examination from Trinity College London. I look forward to her classes, she has become an incredible friend and mentor for a lifetime.
– Shazia P. (Virtual student)
Mrs. Kat has been an outstanding mentor, teacher, and leader. She has helped me with countless monologues, scenes and auditions during our acting classes. I owe all my success in the arts to her for if it wasn’t for her I would have never gotten into my dream art school. There has never been a day where Mrs. Kat has ever done me or any of her students wrong. She always makes sure to treat everyone with the same respect and kindness. Her enthusiasm, dedication, and expertise have improved my confidence, public speaking skills, and acting drastically. I highly appreciate and recommend Mrs. Kat. She is the best!!!
– Liam T. (Dryfoos Audition Prep)
Ms. Kat helped me so much during my audition process for Dreyfoos. Before working with her, I was really nervous and didn't know what to expect. She taught me how to bring more emotion and confidence into my performance with the piece that I chose for the audition. Ms. Kat always made me feel comfortable and encouraged me to be myself. She gave me helpful feedback without making me feel discouraged, and she helped me improve every time we practiced. Because of her coaching, I felt much more prepared and confident when it was time for my audition. I know Ms. Kat played a huge part in my audition preparation for the Dreyfoos Acting/Theater program and I'm really grateful for all of her support and would definitely recommend her to other students who want help preparing for auditions.

Improv
Not only is Kat Kenny one of the best improvisers in the entire state of Florida, she’s an outstanding teacher and a wonderful person. When my improv team wanted to take our skills to the next level, she was without question the first person we thought of to coach our team. We brought some specific goals of our own to Kat and she tailored her coaching to meet those goals and go beyond them. She is a joy to be around and always comes from a place of kindness but she doesn’t hesitate to offer clear, actionable feedback. Kat focuses in on exactly what you need as an individual, and as a team, offering supportive constructive criticism that helps you reach the next level as a performer.
– Aaron B. (Improv Team Coaching)
Kat Kenny was a private coach for my four-person longform improv team.
Every session she took notice of the skills and format we wanted to work on, then tailored the exercises and notes to address them. She pushed us to break bad habits and take on roles she caught us shying away from.
We would not have been a premier team and long-running cagematch champions without her guidance.
Kat is the most knowledgeable coach and teacher in South Florida and a wonderful cheerleader for artists and the arts.
– Nick E. (Improv Team Coaching)
Kat Kenny, Kathleen Kenny has been my teacher off and on for probably 10 or 15 years. The only thing I can say about Miss Kathleen Kenny, is that she is the smartest, kindest, most professional teacher I have ever had. Even if the subject is a difficult subject, she makes it easy for you.
Whenever I have a chance to have her teach me again, she is always my very first choice! There is no one better in my opinion!
– Gerry B. (Improv Student)
If you want to learn improv, please take a class with Kat Kenny! Kat’s classes are always a joyful, creative and safe environment to explore your imagination and get back in touch with your sense of childlike wonder. As an improviser with 15+ years of experience who had the privilege to take classes with Kat from beginner to advanced levels, there is no better place to explore the world of improv in a warm and comfortable space, or to work on and refine your comedic craft, taking it to the next level.
– Stu R. (Improv Student)
There are lots of teachers who can teach technique. Kat is certainly one of those teachers, but she’s also the kind of teacher (and person) who leads with such empathy that you can’t help but gain a little bit more yourself, and that is much more rare. Kat is great!
– Ben B. (Improv class/improv coaching)
Kat Kenny is a joy to watch, play with, learn from, and generally be around. Her wisdom helped to shape my teaching style and any time I get to be in a room with her is a blessing. If you have the chance to learn from or work with Kat, run, don’t walk!

I’ve had the privilege of learning from Kat Kenny for several years, and what stands out most is how she creates a space where you can truly be yourself. When I first started, I was unsure and hesitant but Kat saw something in me and nurtured it with patience, humor, and encouragement. Through her guidance, I found my voice, my confidence, and a deeper sense of joy in performing. Her classes are more than improv, they’re an experience in growth, connection, and freedom!

Kat Kenny it’s not only one of the best human beings you will ever meet, but she is also one of the most inspiring improvisers and talented Improv coaches I’ve ever had! She was my first improv teacher and through all the years I’ve taken classes with her, been coached for several teams by her, she has been amazingly supportive, and given actionable adjustments that have helped me improve immeasurably as an improviser. She is truly one of the best Improv teachers I’ve ever known.
– Robin T. (Improv Team Coaching)
I've taken multiple improv classes with Kat, and she is truly remarkable. She meets everyone where they are, making each class warm, welcoming, and inspiring. With her guidance, I’ve felt more compassionate, more connected to others, and more in touch with the playful, creative part of myself. She encourages risk-taking, explains her vision clearly, and balances constructive feedback with genuine support. Kat is not only an exceptional teacher but also one of the kindest, most caring people I’ve ever met.
– Micah S. (Improv Student)
Kat the improv coach is the same as Kat the friend: funny, inspiring, and always supportive. Kat creates safe spaces for everyone involved without drawing attention or calling out special accommodations, so everyone is always welcome and empowered to play along. Kat’s consistent positivity and encouragement is especially suited to intro-level classes, yet still important for experienced players and teams who may be down a self-critical road. Kat also provides direct and insightful notes, both on content and structure. Her content notes practice the same inclusion and awareness with which she conducts her classes, and her structure notes keep everyone aligned with the goals of rehearsing a format or just making the best use of time. The professionalism Kat brings to class extends to the improv teams she performs with: managing scheduling, handling other administrative duties, and fulfilling various off stage roles to ensure everything on stage goes smoothly.
– Brian S. (Improv Student)
I've had numerous improv teachers since starting the "yes and" improv journey. The teachers all knew improv. However, not all of the teachers in my opinion could teach improv.
Kathleen is Genuine not artificial!
You can see, feel and experience it in the improv shows she performs in and the improv classes she provides. The best way I can describe this difference between some improv teachers and her teaching skills is to go back during my school years. Only some of the teachers I had made a difference in my life and I still remember.
Kathleen is knowledgeable, professional and caring.
She is a playful soul!
Kathleen is to Improv as Mother Nature is to Earth.
– Dave C. (Improv Student)
After five years of knowing Kat in the improv world, I can say she is the gold standard for instructors. She doesn't just teach the 'I’ve got your back' rule, she lives it, making every student and scene partner feel like a total rockstar. Kat has an incredible gift for making the outside world vanish the moment you step into her environment, allowing you to focus entirely on the joy of the craft. She is the ultimate teacher: selfless, supportive, and always elevating those around her. Any opportunity to learn from her is a true honor, if you have the chance to work with her, take it!
– CyNedra B. (Improv Student)
Three or four years ago, I was feeling a little defeated, eating rice Chex and scrolling on Facebook. Amidst all the memes and political rants, I came across an add for Improv. I had to make the daunting effort of typing “improv” into the Google search engine because those good ole’ days we didn’t have chat gpt. Well a few clicks and a hit of inhaler later, I was signed up for a 6 week class with Kat Kenny at Bob Carter’s. Come the first day of class, after hours of marinating in a warm bath of epsom salt and anxiety, I made the final decision 10 minutes after staring at my Waze “Leave NOW!” notification that I was indeed going to try this out.
The result: LIFE CHANGING.
Kat Kenny checks every box.
I’ve never felt more accepted and supported in a class setting. She takes every possible step and then some to ensure that her students’ well-being and emotional safety come first.
She brings all the energy without moving too fast, with a perfect balance of listening: learning: activity.
There is no pressure to “perform”, just the encouragement to let your imagination flow.
Years after my first class, I continue to learn new techniques from Kat to be a better listener, actor, and improviser.
Kat’s ongoing teaching and performing experience breathes new life into every class I take with her. There is always something new and exciting to learn, whether it’s a 101 class, or a longform class.
The most important lesson I’ve learned from taking improv with Kat is that we are here to PLAY and have FUN! And that lesson, to me, is the foundation for longevity and mastery of every other skill I’ve since learned in performing arts. I am forever grateful for the perspective I’ve learned from these classes.
So if you’re reading this right now over a bowl of almond milk and Frosted Flakes, please sign up for this class with Kat.
Your understanding of performing arts and the world in general is about to change for the best!

Organizations I’ve Worked With
I've had the privilege of witnessing the magic that is Kat Kenny teaching youth and teens, and "truly exceptional" is the understatement of the century. Her natural knack for empowering the most reserved child in the room to become the most confident, articulate and expressive, while simultaneously nurturing the brightest budding stars into more collaborative and empathetic team players. Every young person in her classes feels seen, supported, valued, and celebrated.
Kat is patient, kind, funny, and endlessly encouraging. Her magnetic energy with youth is unmatched, and she creates a space where students can grow, connect, and shine. Beyond her skills as an instructor, Kat is a flexible, reliable, and professional community partner who is always willing to adapt to the needs of the group and organization she is serving. Any collective would be deeply enriched by having Kat working with their young people.
